If you’re lucky enough to live on the Left Coast, you can celebrate New Year’s Eve with a choice of two seatings at French 75.  If we were out in Laguna Beach on vacation with London and Maddie, we’d still be on East Coast time, so we’d celebrate early with the first seating from 4 to 7:30 pm, which includes a three-course dinner for $80 per person.  However, it feels much more festive to ring in the New Year 2009 with a four-course dinner for $140 per person at the second seating starting at 8 pm.  The second seating includes a Perrier Jouet Champagne toast, party favors and entertainment.  To make your reservations, call (949) 494-8444.

The web site describes it as “ninety minutes of living pictures - incredibly faithful art re-creations of classical and contemporary works with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. An outdoor amphitheater, professional orchestra, original score, live narration, intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, expert staff, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have won recognition for the Pageant as the best presentation of its kind.” The first time I went, over 10 years ago, I was skeptical. I was picturing an Edward Hopper “painting” with a couple of actors hanging around a pool table, but the way to think about it is people as the pixels of the painting.

When we were out in Laguna with the girls for our annual February break, we bought Oyster Bar (below) by Susan Cox.  Rex found the perfect spot for it in our house in Mendham, New Jersey, and hung it in our eat-in kitchen.

We’ve admired serveral of their artists, including Georgi Andonov (image at right), but don’t own any of their work. Perhaps it is just a matter of time (and wall space).

Visit Luxury Link and get a nice low rate for a room in the tower with a full ocean view. Perhaps most importantly, it is right across the street from Koffee Klatch.
